Ensemble -tonWerk-
Since 2018, David Hausknecht has been the artistic director of the ensemble -tonWerk-. Founded in Vienna in 2001, the ensemble is a partner of the Viennese publishing house Ariadne Verlag für neue Musik. -tonWerk- presents concerts with a particular focus on contemporary music and world premieres, performing both in Austria and internationally.
Working in flexible, modular formations, -tonWerk- brings together a core group of musicians with internationally renowned guests. Creative collaboration with composers is central to the ensemble’s work—ranging from interpretation and critical revision to the joint development of new pieces. This approach turns the creation of music into a shared, living process.

Lied-Duo
Since 2016, Viennese-based mezzosoprano Josipa Bainac and pianist David Hausknecht have performed together as a lied duo. The profound poetic devotion and virtuosity of the young Czech pianist, combined with the penetrating intensity of Josipa Bainac’s voice, captivate audiences both in Austria and abroad. The duo has built an extensive repertoire of song cycles, with a significant focus on contemporary music. Several works have been dedicated to the duo and premiered by them.
Their continuous collaboration with living composers—such as Johanna Doderer, Michael Berkeley, among others—shapes their musical approach. It allows them to keep the music alive and engaging, regardless of whether they perform from a historical or contemporary perspective. They represent a new generation of musicians who strive to be close to the composers as well as to the audience.
